Cocoon Sweater Wrap from Butterick 6065

Here is a fun, easy and satisfying project for you!  I call it a Cocoon Wrap, and it is from Butterick 6065.

This is so easy, it is literally only two pattern pieces:  the main body, and the neckband.

I used a novelty Missoni type sweater fabric.  I'm not sure what is in it, but it has all of my favorite fall colors.

This is so comfortable!

I can't wait for it to turn chilly enough to wear it!

Since my fabric was very loosely woven, I hemmed it with a satin bias strip.  But you could just narrow hem it if your fabric is closely woven.

My 21 year old daughter wants one.  How cool is that?

Happy Sewing!

  1. Gorgeous sweater - you picked the perfect pattern for that fabric. It is so cool your daughter wants one, we moms know the garment is a winner when they ask for one, too.

  2. Beautiful! Looks so cozy and perfect for the cooler months of the year. I like too how it's colorful - I seem to wear a lot of darker blacks & greys that time of year.

    1. Thanks, Melissa. I have a lot of black and grey too- that's why I thought I'd punch it up this year with a little more color.

What to Wear in Madagascar

To be honest, I have no idea what to wear in Madagascar, and this title may need to be changed to "what NOT to wear in Madagascar" in a few months.  We will have to wait and see.  My 22 year old daughter, Alyssa, left for the Peace Corps this week, and she will be stationed in Madagascar for the next 2 years and 3 months.  Yes, you read that right- TWO YEARS and three months!!! We are very proud of her for wanting to help make the world a better place, and for being fearless in doing so, but it will be a looooong time for Mama and Papa back home. Not knowing anything about Madagascar, the first step in figuring out what to pack was to figure out the weather and the cultural norms.  Madagascar is a very large island off the southeastern coast of Africa.  It's very, very unique in it's ecosystem, and has many species that are not found anywhere else in the world- most famously lemurs. Right now, it is experiencing it's rainy season, as you can see by t...

Rose Colored Glasses and More

So, 2019 was a bummer of a year for me.  I developed a heart condition called atrial fibrillation (or Afib for short) and spent the last half of the year in and out of the ER and doctor's offices trying to control it.  If you've never heard of it, it's when your heart rate suddenly goes 100 miles an hour.  It's very unpredictable, scary, uncomfortable and exhausting.  So, needless to say, I didn't get a ton of sewing done the last half of the year.   Rubes® cartoon used with permission © Leigh Rubin www.RubesCartoons.com In August, I was put on a medication that had scary side effects, didn't work, and led to horrendous insomnia.  I felt like a walking zombie.   But after 3 months of that, in November, I had a procedure called a cardiac ablation which froze the heart cells that were causing the problem.  Thank God for modern technology- this procedure has only been available in the last 20 years. I'm 3 months post procedur...
