Turquoise Ikat Print Tunic Vogue 8913

I am so into the high low thing this year!  I found another tunic pattern that has it. This one is from Vogue 8913.   I used a gorgeous Turquoise Ikat Voile that we have at SewBaby this time. We also have it lavender and lime green, which is tempting me too.

You can see that it really is quite long in the back.  I don't think I've ever had a top quite this long!  I didn't lengthen it and it hits me about mid-thigh.

This picture is the version with an extended sleeve which I didn't do.  This is a super easy pattern.  I eliminated the front upper/lower bodice seam because I didn't want to mess with my print.  That would be a nice touch on a solid though.  I cut a bias strip for the neckline binding, instead of using the purchased bias tape.  This is not hard to do.  I will try to take some photos next time I do it, as I think it is a much nicer finish.
I'm not sure how to sit with it.  If I don't sit on it, it won't wrinkle so much, so I think that's what I'll do.

I used the medium in the shoulder, and the enlarged the sides to be equivalent to a Large, since the pattern doesn't include medium and large together.  But, now I think it's too large.  I may go in and chop it back to a medium, but I'll wait until I wash it a few times to see if it shrinks any.

The first time I wore it, which was to the grocery store, a random shopper came up to me and complimented me on my top and wanted to know where I bought it.:)

Thanks Vogue!  Another winner in my book for the tunic.  I don't know that I need any more high low tops now, but I definitely can recommend this pattern.

  1. Very stylish and the colouring is very complimentary on you! Did you have to adjust the back neckline at all, or is it 'as-is' from the pattern - it looks like it sits in just the perfect spot, not too low...J

What to Wear in Madagascar

To be honest, I have no idea what to wear in Madagascar, and this title may need to be changed to "what NOT to wear in Madagascar" in a few months.  We will have to wait and see.  My 22 year old daughter, Alyssa, left for the Peace Corps this week, and she will be stationed in Madagascar for the next 2 years and 3 months.  Yes, you read that right- TWO YEARS and three months!!! We are very proud of her for wanting to help make the world a better place, and for being fearless in doing so, but it will be a looooong time for Mama and Papa back home. Not knowing anything about Madagascar, the first step in figuring out what to pack was to figure out the weather and the cultural norms.  Madagascar is a very large island off the southeastern coast of Africa.  It's very, very unique in it's ecosystem, and has many species that are not found anywhere else in the world- most famously lemurs. Right now, it is experiencing it's rainy season, as you can see by t...

Vogue 9305 Asymmetrical Tunics

It's April and we're expecting snow tonight.  Have we switched hemispheres?  Nevertheless, I am sewing with visions of warm sunny days.  And for those warm sunny days to come, I imagine sitting in the shade with a light breeze flowing through the air, enjoying a light beverage with friends.  Just close your eyes and you can imagine too.  What would you be wearing?  Well,  I love a dramatic asymmetrical tunic made of the softest linen.  As luck would have it, I found just the fabric in the "As Is" section in Fabric Mart's sales category.  With just some irregular dye marks on the selvage, it was marked down, but still completely usable.  It started out as a solid color, but I did an ombre dip dye process to get this look- more on that later! For my pattern, I chose Vogue 9305 , a tunic with a shaped hemline, and two styles of pants (I didn't make the pants).   This pattern must be the biggest bang for your ti...
