My Wardrobe Contest Entry

Patternreview.com was having a wardrobe contest from Sept 1-Nov 30.  The goal was to make a 10 piece mix and match wardrobe.  I wasn't originally going to enter, but by last Saturday, I had 7 items that I could enter, so I thought, what's 3 more?  The last three, of course, took me until 10:45 pm last night to finish, and since the Patternreview clock seems to be set on the Eastern Time Zone, I finished just in time.  Whew!

I'm calling it my Green Goddess Wardrobe, based on, of course, the famous Green Goddess salad dressing.  No, not really.  This wardrobe is full of rich fabrics in silk and wool, ranging from aqua to forest green, accented with neutrals of black and cream. The patterns chosen are fluid and drapey. Here is the result!  And here is my official review with specifics about what pattern was used for each piece.

The winner will be chosen by Patternreview.com members, of which there are over 200,000 now!  It really is an inspiring place to visit on the web.

What to Wear in Madagascar

To be honest, I have no idea what to wear in Madagascar, and this title may need to be changed to "what NOT to wear in Madagascar" in a few months.  We will have to wait and see.  My 22 year old daughter, Alyssa, left for the Peace Corps this week, and she will be stationed in Madagascar for the next 2 years and 3 months.  Yes, you read that right- TWO YEARS and three months!!! We are very proud of her for wanting to help make the world a better place, and for being fearless in doing so, but it will be a looooong time for Mama and Papa back home. Not knowing anything about Madagascar, the first step in figuring out what to pack was to figure out the weather and the cultural norms.  Madagascar is a very large island off the southeastern coast of Africa.  It's very, very unique in it's ecosystem, and has many species that are not found anywhere else in the world- most famously lemurs. Right now, it is experiencing it's rainy season, as you can see by t...

Rose Colored Glasses and More

So, 2019 was a bummer of a year for me.  I developed a heart condition called atrial fibrillation (or Afib for short) and spent the last half of the year in and out of the ER and doctor's offices trying to control it.  If you've never heard of it, it's when your heart rate suddenly goes 100 miles an hour.  It's very unpredictable, scary, uncomfortable and exhausting.  So, needless to say, I didn't get a ton of sewing done the last half of the year.   Rubes® cartoon used with permission © Leigh Rubin www.RubesCartoons.com In August, I was put on a medication that had scary side effects, didn't work, and led to horrendous insomnia.  I felt like a walking zombie.   But after 3 months of that, in November, I had a procedure called a cardiac ablation which froze the heart cells that were causing the problem.  Thank God for modern technology- this procedure has only been available in the last 20 years. I'm 3 months post procedur...
